Giulia Suro, PhD is the Clinical Director of Oliver-Pyatt Centers Day Treatment Programs. This includes the Partial Hospitalization Program as well as the Intensive Outpatient Program. Dr. Suro completed her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Columbia University in New York. It was there she was exposed to a wide range of clinical experiences including a year-long rotation at Bellevue Hospital, as well as two years spent at Rikers Island Jail. She then went on to pursue her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Miami where she specialized in severe psychopathology as well as family systems. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Suro began a year-long internship at the Miami Veteran Affairs Hospital with a special focus on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She then returned to Oliver-Pyatt Centers as a Primary Therapist in the residential program and remained there for two years before becoming Clinical Director of the Intensive Outpatient Program, and a year later the Clinical Director of all Day Treatment Programs.
Since joining Oliver-Pyatt Centers as a Primary Therapist, Dr. Suro has developed a passion for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and has developed structured programming for this evidence-based therapy across levels of care. She also speaks about applying Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in the context of eating disorders to local clinicians and CE events in Miami. Dr. Suro has also engaged in educational presentations for various providers in Miami, including universities and community mental health clinics, in order to enhance opportunities for early assessment and prevention.
Dr. Suro is grateful for the “perks” that South Florida has to offer and enjoys ocean swims or walks with her dog around Key Biscayne whenever she has the opportunity. She is also an avid yoga practitioner and an amateur tomato gardener.
