WE WELCOME families to OPC for participation in educational and group sessions that we believe are essential to our patients & recovery process.
What should we expect at family fridays?
Family Fridays for clients in our Residential and Partial Hospitalization Programs are held once a month beginning at 8:00am with a meet and greet. The day includes: eating disorders 101; a discussion of the medical aspects of eating disorders; and a session focused on nutrition and dietetics, where you will learn about our food philosophy and approach to eating disorders.
For those families who have previously attended Family Friday, a psychoeducational group with a doctoral level Clinical Director will be offered at 10:30am.
In the late morning, each Casa Coordinator will guide you to your loved ones' casa for a multifamily group. Following, team members will host a mindful eating luncheon. The structure of this luncheon will provide families insight into how meals are served during treatment at Oliver-Pyatt Centers. Later in the day, families will attend individual family therapy sessions, followed by aftercare planning and education for families and loved ones.
Family Fridays for clients in our Transitional Living and/or Intensive Outpatient Programs are held bi-monthly. Families are welcomed at 9:30am with coffee and a light snack. The day continues with: psychoeducation; a family process group; and a family meal for all families and patients.
Keeping this schedule in mind, we suggest you plan to arrive in Miami by late afternoon or early evening Thursday, and stay until at least Friday evening.
Upcoming Family Fridays Residential March 3, April 7, May 5
TLP/IOP March 3, May 5, July 30
Where do Family Friday activities take place?
All scheduled activities happen at Oliver-Pyatt Centers with the exception of possible outings a patient and her family may want to take on their own. We ask that patients request such outings by Wednesday, and be approved by their therapists and team in advance. For recommended outings, please visit our Local Resources page.
Who should attend Family Fridays?
We recommend as many key members as possible attend these sessions in order to help the patient's recovery and the family’s healing. Siblings of high school age or older are welcome to join in the therapy groups. Participation in Family Fridays is considered an essential component of our treatment program; therefore it is critical that key members of the patient's family and support network make arrangements to attend if the team recommends it.
Which airport should we fly into?
The closest airport to Oliver-Pyatt Centers is Miami International Airport (MIA). MIA houses major airlines, and is about a 20-30 minute drive from the Center.
Should we hire a cab or rent a car?
Miami Airport offers rental cars from most major rental companies, and we estimate a two-day rental to be about $200, including insurance, mileage, etc. The approximate taxi fare to Oliver-Pyatt Centers or any of the recommended hotels is approximately $50, including tip; Uber and Lyft are also easily accessible throughout the area. OPC does not provide shuttle service
Where should we stay?
The following hotels are all within two miles of Oliver-Pyatt Centers. Although it is certainly safe to walk back and forth from the Center, we recommend driving because of the Miami heat. If you have not rented a car, cab fare from any of these hotels to OPC should cost you no more than $20 including tip.
